Derbyshire and Lancashire Gliding Club are looking to recruit a second summer instructor for the 2017 season.
This is a fantastic opportunity to fly in some of the most picturesque scenery in the UK – the stunningly beautiful Peak District National Park where last year we flew 422 Introductory Flights (Trial Lessons) totalling 131 hours of flying and recruited 26 new members – all of which need now to be trained. This represents a unique opportunity for both B.I’s and Ass Cats to build up their hours towards the next progression level.
Camphill – as the name suggests is a hilltop site with west and south facing ridges, and the hills around our “backyard” offer ridge soaring opportunities in most wind directions. In addition, thermal and wave flights are common and the club enjoys a special “Letter of Agreement” with Manchester which allows us to open up a wave box above our site – allowing flights up to FL195(The “Club” record – which cannot now be beaten because of airspace restrictions stands at 24,ooo ft)
You will be flying in skies shared by some illustrius predecessors like the world famous “Dam Busters”. Our airfield is only a short hop away from Ladybower Reservoir, Derwent and Howden Dams used as practice runs prior to their raids over Germany. To the east lies another famous landmark, the village of Eyam – the only place outside of London to get the plague – believed to have been carried in by lice on bales of cloth.
Enquiries are invited from both B.I’s and Ass Cat rated instructors. Although your primary role will be to service our ever popular and substantial number of Introductory flight voucher holders, the right candidate will also be expected to assist our own instructors with ab-initio training as required. It is envisaged you will be working a 5-day week and preference will be given to those who can offer either Tuesday – Saturday, Wednesday – Sunday or Sunday – Thursday
Salary is negotiable and will include an accommodation package for the right person. For further details, please send us an email to the address in the page header and we’ll get back to you ASAP.
Longest Day 2016. First Flight at 4:08 to 3,300 ft in wave
